Student Support

Student Services Team

Our goal is to see your child thrive here at Baker, in high school, and throughout life.

We believe that every child learns best when they feel seen, supported, and challenged. Our Student Services Team works closely with classroom teachers to provide individual and small-group support that helps each student thrive academically and emotionally.

Students may be eligible for a Baker Support Plan for academic and/or social emotional needs. These accommodations are provided for individual students who may have had, or qualified for, an IEP or 504 in a public school or have had a private neuropsychological evaluation. In other cases, students may receive short-term social work support following a significant life event.

If you have academic or social-emotional concerns about your child or questions about what Student Services can provide for your child, please reach out to a member of our Student Services team. We are here to partner with parents, faculty and administration to ensure our students have the tools they need to thrive in the Baker learning environment.

In addition to teachers who go above and beyond academic instruction to form meaningful relationships with our students, Baker also employs incredible student support staff. These staff and faculty members are there to provide enhanced support to make sure every child’s unique needs are met.

What makes learning support at baker unique?

Are Baker student support resources free?

Yes!

Baker provides a whole child approach that focuses on understanding each student as a learner, thinker and community member.

Since Baker is an independent school, we provide Baker Support Plans instead of Individualized Education Plans (IEP) or 504 Accommodation Plans, which may be provided by the public school. Teachers, learning specialists, student services coordinators, social workers and division directors all collaborate to respond to student’s academic, social and emotional needs in real time. Utilizing their specialized backgrounds in learning disabilities, social emotional disorders (such as ADHD, anxiety and depression), and neurodiversity, you will often find our student services team in the classrooms, running small groups, working with individual students or strategizing in meetings to best support our students. Baker provides a personalized approach to learning based on a student’s unique profile that can include integrated academic support from student services to strengthen academic skills and provide targeted strategy development.

Small class size, and small caseloads fosters strong relationships

Baker intentionally builds for classroom cohorts and student services caseloads at a size where students can be well known by their peers and staff. This allows for proactive support, flexible instruction and frequent communication with families. Student Services staff progress with their students across multiple grades. This consistency of long-term relationships facilitates students’ comfort in taking risks in their learning with adults who understand how they learn best. It also provides increased individualized attention for all students from staff.

Although Baker does not offer the same range of specialists found in a public school such as speech or occupational therapy, Baker’s focus is on providing a responsive, nurturing environment for students whose needs can be met through individualized instruction, small group instruction and accommodations.

We value the importance of nurturing the whole child—socially, emotionally, and academically.

Our Licensed Clinical Social Worker (Cynthia Eudy, LCSW) provides comprehensive school social work services for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. The Social Work program focuses on helping students build strong social connections, develop emotional regulation, and foster resilience. Through collaboration with families, teachers, and staff, Mrs. Eudy supports a positive and inclusive school environment where every child can thrive.

A wide range of small-group and classroom-based supports are offered to help students strengthen vital life skills. Friendship groups and Social Skills groups encourage students to build healthy relationships, practice empathy, and learn effective communication. Lessons on kindness, social thinking, and mindfulness help students navigate challenges with confidence and compassion. By teaching resilience-building skills and emotional awareness, our school Social Work program empowers students to approach learning, relationships, and life’s ups and downs with a growth mindset and a sense of calm.

Families are essential partners in a students’ learning and school experience.

We deeply value the connection between home and school. Baker is a place for families seeking a progressive school where learning differences are understood and embraced within the context of the whole child.

Alumni Support

Our commitment to helping children thrive extends beyond their time at Baker.

While all teachers take a keen interest in the high school careers of Baker alumni, one middle school faculty member is committed to keeping in touch with them as our alumni support coordinator.

No matter where your child attends high school, our alumni support staff are there to help build relationships between them and the school. They also plan alumni events to help them stay connected to their Baker support network.
