Application Process for 2009-2010 Entry

  1. Call or complete out an Inquiry Form to request an admission packet or additional forms.
  2. Attend a Group School Tour, most Tuesdays 9-10 a.m. October 20, 2009 through April, 2010.
  3. Submit the following as soon as possible for first round consideration for 2010-2011:
    1. Admissions Application (PDF)
    2. Copy of child's birth certificate
    3. $75 Application fee for Pre-k - 8th Grade
    4. $60 Application fee for Toddler Program

  4. If applying for Financial Aid, complete NAIS School and Student Services (SSS) Financial Need Assessment no later than February 15, 2010:

    3. Submit all 2009 Tax documents no later than April 16, 2010

      Baker’s admission process is uniform regardless of a family’s need or interest in financial aid.  If a child whose family has indicated they are seeking aid is admitted, a space will be saved, but no award will be granted until the report from SSS and the family’s 2009 tax return has been submitted. Late applications may or may not be considered.  Applications for Kindegarten-8thGrade only will be considered for 2010-2011 Financial Assistance.

  5. Request your child’s current school/program submit the following directly to Baker:
    1. Signed Confidential Release Form (PDF)
    2. Grade appropriate Lake Michigan Association of  Independent Schools (LMAIS)  Common Recommendation Forms
    3. All additional evaluations, testing or reports (if applicable)
    4. ISEE or CTP4 exam results for 5th-8th grades.  Baker can administer the CTP4 on site.

      School records and recommendation forms will be reviewed by the Admission Committee.  Outside evaluations will be shared with the Head of School, Instructional Coordinator, and Student Services.  Occasionally, Baker staff may speak with a child’s former or current teacher or other professional who has worked with the applicant.

  6. Schedule a student visit for your child.  All students, including those not currently attending a school program and new incoming siblings of Baker students, must be met by Baker faculty.
    1. Toddler, Pre-K, and Kindergarten applicants will visit for a scheduled applicant “play party” in January or February.  1st grade applicants will visit for a half day with peers in a kindergarten class.
    2. 2nd through 8th Grade applicants will visit the school for a full day (8:30 am – 3:15 pm).  Students should bring the following materials:
      1. Writing samples
      2. Math samples
      3. Reading samples
      4. A book the applicant is currently reading
      5. Snack
      6. Lunch
      7. Gym and/or swim wear
  7. Schedule a parent/guardian interview with the Director of Admission in January, February or March.  This informal 30 minute meeting is a chance for families to ask further questions and for the school to learn more about the family.

Admission decisions will be made by the Admission Committee. All decisions are final.  Families of a child who has been admitted will receive a contract by mail.
